Loving I.O Metro

The hubs, kid's and I went to an outdoor mall last Sunday and decided to check out I.O. Metro  while we were there. While my 3 year old reaked havoc around the store, hubs and I and the little one tried out some new sofas. Now out current sectional we have had about 4 years now and it is not holding up so well. The microfiber shows every butt in print and the dogs like to sit on the back cushions and it currently looks a little squished. I have noticed this seems to be a problem with microfiber and now understand why some designs don't like to use it. There is nothing worse than seeing a beautiful room with a sad looking couch.

Look at these beauties offered by I.O. Metro. I think these would look perfect in my house.

Parson's bookcases

The parson's bookcase, what's not to love; clean lines, traditional, yet mordern at the same time. A very versatile piece of furniture. You can find the parson's bookcase in all kinds of colors these days. I think it would be the perfect fit for our living room. Not only to use for the dvr/dish box, but to create some lovely vignettes.

The Home Decorator's Version, half the price and more color options. It is about a foot shorter, but seems to be a better deal for the price.

Not Your Granny's Wallpaper

I have to admit, when we were looking for our current house we looked at many houses with some god awful wallpaper. I was mentally preparing how terrible it would be to remove and definitely figured on hiring someone. Well we ended up lucking out, because the only place that we have had wallpaper was the 80's wet bar in the living room. We are still not finished with that renovation.

Since then I have decided there can be some very cool looking choice in wallpaper. Take grass cloth for instance. I absolutely love the way it looks and I am thinking of using it in our dining room.

How about a little more funky? A little goes a long way.
Love this bathroom from Bailey at http://www.peppermintbliss.com/. This girl can use wallpaper and her decor is gorgeous.

Have always love this bathroom with Imperial Trellis wallpaper.

So now I am contemplating where else I can use wallpaper in my house. I am debating using some in my master bathroom, perhaps as an accent wall. Here are some of my favorites for the space I am considering:

Introduction

What is a Slummy Mummy you ask? After I had my first a few years ago I read the book Slummy Mummy by Fiona Niell while on maternity leave. It is a fluff book, but made me laugh as a harried first time mom. I tried to encompass being the modern day working Mum, but never quite get it right. So I found my calling…the Slummy Mummy.

In her article Hooray for Slummy Mummies (13th October) Turner describes the Slummy Mummy:

“She’s the mother whose children arrive at school wearing odd socks and with their swimming kit still sitting on the kitchen table. Her home totters uncertainly between shabby chic and just plain shabby... When she gets back from the school run, she thinks about doing some yoga, but she puts the telly on instead. Slummy Mummy does not shirk her maternal responsibilities, although she is liable to take a few short cuts for the sake of her own sanity... She is human and fallible and, most importantly, likeable.”

I think that pretty much sums up my life. I am always one step behind and try hard to be that modern day June Cleaver all while having perfectly dressed children and a rewarding career. The reality is never quite like that.

The other morning I decided to brave the pediatrician's office with both children for their 9 month and 3 year checkups. When I get my eldest out of the car she has pulled her barrette out of her hair and was insisting on bringing her Valentine's day mailbox in with her. We make it into the office and standing in the waiting room is the antithesis of the slummy mummy, the yummy mummy. She is perfectly dressed in her designer jeans and looking like she just spent an hour at the salon. Her precious girl doesn't have a hair out of place and is secured in her Ergo carrier (my 9 month old likes to just rub his snot on me when we try to place him in his). Meanwhile my 3 year old has dumped her cards all over the floor and my 9 month old has started to fuss.

Strangely, I love to decorate. I could spend hours looking at pretty pictures on Pinterest or House Beautiful. I check Craigslist daily for cute furniture to repaint, sadly it sits in the garage still awaiting my attention. So there you have it my inspiration for starting a blog.
